In a previous life, I was wholly immersed in sw - graphics, database, hw diagnostics, applications, buildmeister, and test. Phew! The hours are very long and I got burned out doing one release after another. Are you responsible for developing the entire website and the forex indicators? Either or both can be very time consuming. Are you using open software? Just curious... Software developers are my heroes. Thanks for you all your work in making our online experience smooth, glitch-free, and FUN.
Purpleskye, I'm really glad you are finding everything to be smooth, glitch-free, and most importantly - fun! I am indeed in charge of the site and technology, and thus handle all the development around here. It means a lot to me that it actually helps people have a better experience and not a more confusing one (which we software developers are known for ).
I am using mostly open software - Eclipse IDE, PHP, Apache server, MySQL, etc. Some things like Photoshop I can't quite exist without while GIMP feels like it was made for robots (or GIMP developers) so I can't use it without losing my mind .
What sort of projects were you typically involved in (if you don't mind me asking)?
I've been developing for forex exclusively since 1999, so that does limit one's perception of the field in general. Because there is no demand for anything other than what I use, it does limit my learning quite a bit - no time to learn new stuff, and no need to.. so I'd say PHP is my specialization these days.

Lately it has been web-hosted business solutions for the service industry - Medical, Hospitality, and SFA. The current focus is on medical practices. I use Linux, Resin, Java, MySQL, HTML, CSS, XML.
I don't know PHP but I have a nephew learning JPHP in high school. I told him it will be easy to find a summer job because PHP programming skills are in hot demand in the Silicon Valley. Have you tried JPHP?

JPHP, as in PHP embedded in Java? I have not had a chance to use it, but it sounds like it could be nifty and very useful! I do have some experience with Java, but I have not used it for years!
Ah, yes, I should have mentioned HTML and CSS, as thats another big chunk of what I use.
Yes, PHP seems to be the "in" thing these days, especially combined with AJAX, CSS, understanding of web standards, etc. I'm sure your nephew is going to have no trouble finding a summer job
Do you know how to develop trading systems and indicators? If I would ask you to develop it for me - could you do it? Probably I should post this in another thread since it purely related to forex activity. So I will post it also at another forum section... Thank you in advance
